According to the Supply and Demand Forecast Report released by the United States Department of Agriculture on September 11, US cotton production, consumption, beginning stocks and ending stocks for the 2026/27 season were all lowered, while import and export volumes remained unchanged. US cotton production was cut by 3% month-on-month to 2.874 million tonnes, as the national average yield fell by 3% to 776 pounds per acre. Yields and production declined in the Delta and Southwest regions, while rising in the Southeast and West. US domestic consumption was reduced to 327,000 tonnes amid continued contraction in the US textile industry. Lower production and beginning stocks reduced supply, pulling US cotton ending stocks down 10% to 784,000 tonnes. The stocks-to-use ratio stood at 26.1%, down from 28.8% in the previous month. The US all upland cotton farm price averaged 78 cents per pound, up 3 cents month-on-month.
For the US 2025/26 season, US cotton exports were raised to 2.678 million tonnes to align with data from the US Census Bureau and other sources. Higher exports brought US ending stocks down to 904,000 tonnes. The US all upland cotton farm price edged up to 62 cents per pound.
For the 2026/27 season, global cotton production was cut by 69,000 tonnes to 25.543 million tonnes. Reductions in the United States, Turkey and Pakistan offset gains in Brazil, West Africa and Kazakhstan. On the consumption side, higher consumption in Indonesia was offset by declines in the United States and other countries, leaving global consumption unchanged. Global cotton trade volumes were raised by roughly 90,000 tonnes, with export upgrades for Brazil and West Africa paired with higher imports for Turkey, Indonesia and Pakistan. Global ending stocks rose by approximately 38,000 tonnes month-on-month, as the increase in beginning stocks was partially offset by lower production.
Based on recently updated trade data, global cotton imports, consumption and ending stocks for the 2025/26 season saw modest upward revisions.
