The dyeing process for coarse‑style imitation woolen fabrics differs from conventional fabric dyeing, and it mainly adopts masterbatch dyeing. The key features of masterbatch dyeing technology are as follows: it delivers good dispersibility with pigment particle fineness uniformly below 1 μm, which prevents oxidation of fine pigment particles when exposed to air at forming temperatures; it enables simple colouring operations and easy colour matching, and masterbatches of different colour gamuts can be swapped; it can be blended with other additives (such as flame retardants and anti‑ageing agents) to produce masterbatches with special functions, and causes no dust pollution.
Coarse‑worsted woollen fabrics generally use coarser yarns with low warp‑and‑weft density. The grey fabric is loose with distinct weave lines, and warp and weft yarns can be easily separated. The grey fabric shows an inferior appearance, yet it changes completely after finishing. There is a huge dimensional difference between grey fabric and finished product, unlike worsted fabrics whose grey fabric and finished product have relatively close dimensions. Coarse‑worsted woollen fabrics are mostly woven from single‑ply yarn, with a small number of varieties using plied yarn. By contrast, worsted wool fabrics are mostly woven with plied yarn; a few varieties adopt plied yarn for warp and single‑ply yarn for weft, or use single‑ply yarn for both warp and weft.
